Thesis Similarity Check and Defense Committee Composition
Regulation 1
According to the revision adopted at the Academic Affairs Meeting on November 13, 2020, in order to prevent plagiarism in degree theses, the University amended Article 4 of the Detailed Regulations for Graduate Degree Examinations to require master’s and doctoral students, when applying for the degree examination, to submit the result report generated by the online thesis similarity-checking system for preliminary screening and to uphold academic ethics.
The revised provision is as follows:
Applicants for the degree examination shall submit a printed and bound thesis (or work, proof of achievement accompanied by a written report, technical report, or professional practice report), an abstract, and one copy of the report generated by the online thesis similarity-checking system, prepared in the prescribed format and signed by the academic advisor, to the affiliated teaching unit.
In addition, according to Institute regulations, this document must be attached when applying for both the Proposal Defense and the Final Defense.

Regulation 2
According to the Detailed Regulations for Graduate Degree Examinations of National Cheng Kung University, the Master’s Degree Examination Committee shall consist of three to five members, to be selected by the teaching unit. Committee members must meet one of the following qualifications and shall be appointed by the President of the University upon recommendation. The academic advisor may not serve as the convener.
- Currently serving or formerly served as a Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor.
- An Academician of Academia Sinica, or currently serving or formerly served as a Research Fellow, Associate Research Fellow, or Assistant Research Fellow at Academia Sinica.
- Holds a doctoral degree and has demonstrated distinguished academic achievements.
- Specializes in a rare or specialized discipline and has demonstrated distinguished academic or professional achievements.
Regulation 3
With reference to the above, if a proposed oral examination committee member falls under Items 3 or 4 above, then according to the resolution for record adopted at the 4th Institute Affairs Meeting of Academic Year 2019 (June 22, 2020), the qualification standard for serving as a committee member must satisfy at least one of the following criteria. The applicant must also provide the committee member’s curriculum vitae, academic and professional background, and a list of publications or patents for review.

- Has published at least one SCI/SSCI-indexed journal article as the first author or corresponding author within the past seven years.
- Has previously been granted or published a patent.
- If neither of the above two qualifications is met, the academic advisor must attend the meeting and provide an explanation.
