- To regulate matters related to course enrollment for graduate students in the Master’s Program of the Institute of Physical Education, Health & Leisure Studies (hereinafter referred to as “the Institute”), the Course Regulations for the Master’s Program of the Institute of Physical Education, Health & Leisure Studies, National Cheng Kung University (hereinafter referred to as “these Regulations”) are hereby established.
- According to Article 9 of the University’s Graduate Student Regulations: “The period of study for Master’s students shall be two years and may be extended by up to two additional years, for a maximum of four years.”
- The minimum graduation requirement is 30 credits, including 10 required credits and 20 elective credits. Required courses include: Research Methods in Physical Education, Health and Leisure Studies (3 credits), Statistics (3 credits; credits earned in related statistics courses taken outside the Institute must be approved by the academic advisor), and Seminar (4 credits in total over four semesters).
- For transfer credit applications by students from other institutions admitted to the Institute’s Master’s Program, in addition to complying with the National Cheng Kung University Regulations for Student Credit Transfer, the following requirements must also be met:
(1) The Institute’s foundation professional courses and core professional courses in each specialization area may not be waived through credit transfer.
(2) Credit transfer for professional elective courses must be confirmed by the instructor of the course concerned as having substantially similar content. After the instructor’s approval, the application shall be submitted to the Curriculum Committee for review and approval, then forwarded to the Institute Office for final approval by the Director. A maximum of 6 credits may be transferred. - English proficiency requirement:
Before graduation, students must either complete one course taught entirely in English or pass one of the following English proficiency tests:
(1) TOEFL PBT score of 530 or above
(2) TOEFL CBT score of 197 or above
(3) TOEFL iBT score of 71 or above
(4) TOEIC score of 600 or above
This English proficiency requirement may be fulfilled at any time from after university admission up to before completion of the graduate degree. - The application form for the appointment of an academic advisor (limited to full-time faculty members of the Institute) must be completed within three weeks after the beginning of the semester. If a co-advisor from outside the Institute is requested, approval must also be obtained through the signatures of the academic advisor and the Director.
- Graduate students must submit a research proposal for review before applying for the Master’s thesis degree examination. The proposal review must be conducted no later than one semester before graduation. The format of the review shall be determined by the academic advisor. Only after passing the proposal review may the student apply for the thesis degree examination within the prescribed period of study. The application for proposal review must be completed by the end of November each year, and the review must be completed and passed by the end of January of the following year. - Before graduation, graduate students must complete the courses required under each program in accordance with the Institute’s graduation credit requirements (stipulated separately).
- Before graduation, graduate students must meet at least one of the following publication requirements:
- Publish at least one paper in a second-tier or above journal recognized by the sports discipline division of the National Science and Technology Council or by other academic disciplines; or
- Deliver at least one oral presentation at a domestic or international academic conference. Domestic conferences shall be limited to those organized by the Physical Education Society of the Republic of China, the Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation, or other academic institutions holding international conferences.
- These Regulations shall be implemented upon approval by the Institute Affairs Meeting; the same procedure shall apply to any amendments.
