Guidelines for Applying for the Degree Examination (Final Defense)
Before applying for the degree examination, please make sure that all of the following requirements have been fulfilled. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
I. Requirements to Be Completed Before Applying for the Degree Examination
- The required period of study has been completed.
- The Master’s Thesis Proposal Defense has been completed and passed.
- The credit requirements prescribed by the Institute have been fulfilled:
- Master’s Program: 10 required credits, 2 core professional courses, 3 professional elective courses, and 2 interdisciplinary courses, with a minimum total of 30 credits.
- In-Service Master’s Program: 14 required credits, 6 core professional elective credits, and 14 elective credits, with a minimum total of 34 credits.
- The publication requirement for graduation has been met:
- At least one paper published in a second-tier or above journal recognized by the sports discipline division of the Ministry of Science and Technology or by another academic discipline; or
- At least one oral presentation delivered at a domestic or international academic conference.
- Domestic conferences must be organized by the Physical Education Society of the Republic of China, the Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation, or other academic institutions hosting international conferences.

II. Supplementary Provisions Applicable to Students in the In-Service Master’s Program
(Approved at the 1st Institute Affairs Meeting on September 4, 2020)
- If a conference submission was originally accepted as an oral presentation but was later changed by the conference organizer to a poster presentation, supporting documents must be provided.
- If the academic conference is organized by the Institute, it shall be uniformly recognized as an oral presentation.
Regulations Governing the Oral Defense
I. Deadline for Application
- First semester: The application must be submitted by December 31, and the defense must be completed by January 20.
- Second semester: The application must be submitted by June 30, and the defense must be completed by July 20.
II. Defense Result
A student who fails the degree examination may retake it once in the following semester. If the student fails the retake, he or she shall be dismissed from the program.
III. Graduation Date
- The graduation date for both the Master’s Program and the In-Service Master’s Program shall be the last day of the semester (June or January).
- If a student is unable to complete the school departure procedures before registration for the following semester (September or February), the student must complete registration for the following semester.

IV. Withdrawal of the Degree Examination
- If the degree examination cannot be completed within the current semester, the student must apply for withdrawal before the end of the semester.
- If the student neither withdraws the application by the deadline nor takes the examination, the student will be regarded as having failed the degree examination once.
V. Revocation of Degree
If the thesis is found, upon investigation, to involve plagiarism or academic fraud, the degree shall be revoked, the degree certificate shall be reclaimed, and the relevant authorities shall be notified.
