Course Regulations for the In-Service Master’s Program in Sport, Health and Leisure Management, National Cheng Kung University

  1. To regulate matters related to course enrollment for graduate students in the In-Service Master’s Program in Sport, Health and Leisure Management (hereinafter referred to as “the Program”), the Course Regulations for the In-Service Master’s Program in Sport, Health and Leisure Management, National Cheng Kung University (hereinafter referred to as “these Regulations”) are hereby established.
  2. The minimum graduation requirement for this Program is 34 credits in total (including thesis advising courses). The period of study is one to four years. Students who fail to complete the required coursework or the degree thesis within the prescribed period of study may apply for an extension of up to one additional year.
  3. The minimum graduation requirement is 34 credits, including 14 required credits, 6 core professional elective credits, and 14 elective credits. Required courses include: Research Methods in Sport Science and Leisure Management (3 credits), Educational Statistics and Computer Applications (3 credits; credits earned in related statistics courses taken outside the Institute must be approved by the academic advisor), Seminar (4 credits in total over four semesters), and Master’s Thesis (4 credits in total over two semesters).

    Additional course enrollment notes are as follows, and the total credits under the following three categories combined shall not exceed 6 credits:

    (1) Students in this Program may take courses offered in the Institute’s regular Master’s Program on a reciprocal basis.
    (2) With the approval of both the academic advisor and the course instructor, students may take courses at the graduate level or above offered by other departments or institutes of the University.
    (3) Applications for inter-university course selection must meet the following two requirements:
        1. Approval of the academic advisor and relevance to the student’s research field.
        2. The course is not offered at National Cheng Kung University.

  4. The regulations and review principles for credit transfer in this Program are as follows:
    (1) The maximum number of transferable credits is 6 credits.
    (2) Applications must be completed within three weeks before the registration deadline of the semester of admission (according to the University calendar). Late applications will be regarded as automatically waived.
    (3) Courses eligible for credit transfer are limited to the common required courses, core courses, and professional elective courses approved by the Program Curriculum Committee for each academic year.
    (4) The course title and number of credits for a course applying for transfer must be identical to those of a course offered by the Program. If the course title differs but the course content and number of credits are equivalent, the applicant must submit a copy of the credit certificate, the course syllabus, and other supporting documents for review.
    (5) When necessary, applicants may be required to take a qualifying examination as part of the credit transfer review. Only those who pass the examination (meeting the graduate passing standard) may be granted credit transfer.
  5. Students must complete the confirmation of their academic advisor and submit the advisor application form before the end of the second semester of the first academic year. If a co-advisor is required, the application shall be handled in accordance with Subparagraph 1, Paragraph 4 of the Principles Governing the Selection and Change of Thesis Advisors for Graduate Students in the In-Service Master’s Program of the Institute.
  6. Students in this Program must submit a research proposal for review before applying for the Master’s thesis degree examination. The proposal review must be conducted no later than one semester before graduation. The format of the review shall be determined by the academic advisor. Only after passing the proposal review may the student apply for the thesis degree examination within the prescribed period of study. The application for proposal review must be completed by the end of May or November each year, and the review must be completed and passed by the end of January or July of the following semester.   7. Before graduation, students in this Program must complete all required courses in accordance with the Institute’s graduation credit requirements (stipulated separately).
  8. Before graduation, students in this Program must meet at least one of the following publication requirements:
    • Publish at least one paper in a third-tier or above journal recognized by the sports discipline division of the National Science and Technology Council or other academic disciplines, including the NCKU Physical Education Journal; or
    • Deliver at least one oral presentation at a domestic or international academic conference. Domestic conferences shall be limited to those organized by the Physical Education Society of the Republic of China, the Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation, or other academic institutions holding international conferences.
  9. These Regulations shall be implemented upon approval by the Institute Affairs Meeting; the same procedure shall apply to any amendments.
